Thyme Street, Bruce

An inherited project with an existing planning permit, Bruce involved the dramatic reconfiguration of the proposed internal and external plans.

Internally, redundant space was exposed and transformed into a new local training facility and regional office for our client. The result is a state-of-the-art centre for children and staff, a real test-fit for future centres for our client.

Externally, the existing plan was also overhauled and swapped for an unconventional approach to external childcare environments. Rather than completely flattening the site to accommodate cookie-cutter features and plastic play equipment, Jeckra endeavoured to maintain as much of the natural landscape, levels and contours as possible.

A number of native mature trees were kept to provide shade and, along with a series of rolling mounds and terraced areas, have become a major feature of the centre.
