Surrounded by old tired centers, there were few choices for families to enroll their children in high-quality learning environments in the Mornington district. Our client saw an opportunity to develop a center at Mornington that would give back to the community and set a benchmark for high-quality educational and play spaces for Mornington families.

The focus was to provide an indoor environment that’s warm and comfortable for children and educators to enjoy in the cooler months while providing a stimulating outdoor experience. This meant considering the sensory aspects of children and bringing them indoors. As a result, we set out to improve acoustic treatments of ceiling linings to reduce sound reverberation. Natural light was brought inside through dormer windows for the visual benefit and thermal comfort.

As a final touch, a kitchen with an attached café style servery was incorporated in the center that provided communal space for families to meet and children to smell and share warm cooked food with their friends.
