O’Brien Street, Gungahlin

Gungahlin Early Learning Centre is a purpose-built childcare centre situated in a mixed-use commercial precinct in the outer suburbs of Canberra.

Operating over two levels and overlooking a largely commercial neighbourhood, the project presented a number of challenges for Jeckra in order to meet client and regulator expectations.

Jeckra was briefed to create nature-inspired environments both internally and externally and to establish education spaces that complemented the operator’s commitment to Reggio Emilia influenced learning.

The result is a series of naturally lit, warm and inviting internal spaces that extend seamlessly to outdoor play environment on the building’s sunlit balconies.
