“We love how the house comes alive in summer—opening the façade lets the breeze flow through while the heat stays out. The flowers on the green roof make it even more special.”
North Shore House embraces traditional Australian passive design and open-plan living, creating a family home that breathes with its environment. Operable walls and doors allow the floorplate to adapt to the seasons, inviting breezes and natural light while keeping heat at bay. A green roof enhances thermal performance, supports biodiversity, and softens the home’s presence in the landscape.
Inside, durable, low-maintenance finishes ensure the home suits a young family, while landscaping and outdoor living areas seamlessly extend the interiors into nature.
The result is a family home that celebrates the principles of passive design, embracing Australia’s climate, and creating a flexible, sustainable, and effortlessly livable retreat that truly connects with its natural surroundings.

“We love how the house comes alive in summer—opening the façade lets the breeze flow through while the heat stays out. The flowers on the green roof make it even more special.”
The design of North Shore House was guided by our client’s love for traditional Australian passive design and the ease of open-plan living. From the outset, the brief was to create a home that would capture natural light, harness cooling breezes, and seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor life.
Central to the design is a series of operable walls and doors, allowing the floorplate to adapt to the seasons and daily rhythms of family life. These elements invite cross ventilation, natural light, and a constant connection to the surrounding landscape, transforming the home into a dynamic space that breathes with the environment.
Inside, we specified highly resilient finishes—from durable flooring to robust joinery—ensuring the home can stand up to the energy of a young family while remaining low-maintenance and timeless.
Landscaping plays a pivotal role, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior spaces. Outdoor living areas flow directly from the open-plan interior, creating a continuous experience of light, wind, and greenery.
